Hyfn Alexzander first landed on our radar after a string of rage-bait posts about Chicago's music culture started making the rounds online. Love him or hate him, he raised a few points that sparked conversation, and honestly, he wasn't wrong about everything. Beyond the social media antics, it's clear Hyfn has been putting in work behind the scenes. He's quietly collaborated with various figures throughout Chicago while assembling ALMIGHTY EASTSIDE, a project that reflects both his ambition and his connection to the city's evolving sound.

As a Chicagoan, I appreciate that hunger. It comes through in the music, and even before pressing play, the album artwork caught my attention. I still don't know whether the cover photo was taken with a camera or generated with AI, but either way, it looks great. I am curious to know the story behind it, though.

When it comes to standout tracks, "GTA" was an easy favorite. The skit leading into the song sets the tone perfectly, and the Mike Jones homage immediately pulled me back to an earlier era of hip-hop. It's a nostalgic touch that fits naturally instead of feeling forced.

If I had one critique, it's the length of the album. The music itself is polished, and the production sounds clean throughout, but at 17 tracks, I found it difficult to keep the entire project in regular rotation. Sometimes less really is more. If Hyfn ever reads this, I'd love to hear a more condensed project next time around. I think a tighter tracklist would make an already solid body of work even stronger and keep listeners coming back from start to finish.

Overall, ALMIGHTY EASTSIDE is worth checking out and is available now on all major streaming platforms. If the rumors are true, Hyfn Alexzander already has more music on the way. We'll definitely be keeping an eye out, and hopefully we'll get the chance to cover the next release as well.
