If there’s one thing fans have learned about Sage The 64th Wonder, it’s that you’ll never know when he’s about to unload another musical surprise.
Today is a perfect example. Just two days after Sage and TLR released their debut collaborative EP, SAGEWAV, the Chicago MC is already back with a brand-new single. While most artists would let a project breathe for a while, Sage seems more interested in keeping listeners on their toes. One of my favorite aspects of the record is the production. The beat flips a retro Pokémon opening theme, instantly unlocking a wave of nostalgia. It’s the kind of sample that hits differently if you recognize it, making producer Leyone Tracks deserving of a special shoutout for bringing that idea to life. What I Didn’t Like: If I had one criticism, it’s that the song ends far too soon. Sage has a habit of leaving listeners wanting more, and while some might call that part of his unpredictable nature, I’d rather hear him stretch out and really attack the beat. His delivery remains sharp throughout, but I couldn’t help thinking: give us another verse. We want more bars, Sage.
For now, the single is available exclusively on SoundCloud BELOW. If history is any indication, there’s a good chance it’ll eventually find its way to the major streaming platforms or not….
